:: Jenna's Hot Rod Wagon ::
:: Scott's Rod Garage ::
March 2003, my parents stop by for a visit and my dad, out of the blue, says "I bought an old car today."  I have been trying to talk him
into building a Hot Rod for a long time, so I asked "What kind of car?"  He replied "It's an old taxi."  I was pumped up, this could be
really cool, again I asked "What kind?"  His answer was kinda mean,"It's in the trunk of our car, do you wanna go see it?"  Well it
turned out to be a Taxi pedal car they found on clearence and tought I could fix it up for Jenna.  So we unpacked it and Jenna crawled
right in.  That night I jazzed it up with some flames as ideas were flying around inside my head.  That week I scrounged up some
used wheels & tires, I was on a tight buget so most of the parts were used.  I built the rear end out of tubing and sheet metal, and
the front was built out of scrap steel I found laying around my shop.
I wanted to go with a Gasser look so I went to Sherwin's Muffler Shop and bought 6 chrome exhaust tips.  I cut them off at two
different lengths and at an angle so they were more noticeable than if they were all the same.  I mocked everything up and Jenna
was pretty happy, so I put it together and took it for a test ride.  I found some green spray paint and tried it to see if I liked it in green.
I scored some custom mix metallic green paint and went to town.  It had to be flamed too.  I air brushed the bumpers and lights for
added detail.  I made the seat out of press board, foam and vinyl. I also put in a seat belt to keep Jenna in during the parades.  The
final assembly went well
Jenna's first look at the finished wagon and a picture with her first Hot Rod and she's only 17 months old.  My mom couldn't find
any colored silk tulips so she brought white ones for Jenna to hold in the parade.  White is BORING so I got out the paint gun and
spiced them up. Jenna's first Tulip Time parade in the Hot Rod and then on to Good Guys Heartland Nationals. Angie, Jenna & me
To our wonderful delight in the weeks following Good Guys we were surprised to find Jenna on the cover of our local paper the
Pella Chronicle in a picture that was taken at our local car show The Resurrected Tin's Bologna Nationals. (picture is below
menu) She also made it into the January 2004 issue of the Good Guys Goodtimes Gazette. Jenna and her wagon have been in
the 2006 Good Guys event brochure and in the '06 & '07 full color Good Guys special advertisement section of the Des Moines
Register.  Here are pictures from 2004 Tulip Time and Good Guys.
Jenna and I are getting her Hot Rod ready the 2005 season.  She got a kick out of washing her own car.  Getting ready for the
parade and cooling off.  At Good Guys she check out the compation, but she's not a trophy hunter, she likes to cruise the fair
grounds. This last picture is the one the Des Moines Register photograher took
2006 Tulip Time rolls around again but this year we have an addition, Eddie.  He checked out Jenna's ride and said I want my own
next year.  More pictures to come  so check back again some time.
